Would You Press the Life Reset Button?

Friends, I have an interesting question for you today:

Imagine you have a “life reset” button—but pressing it means you lose all your memories, relationships, and life lessons. You get a completely fresh start, but with no trace of the person you are today. Would you press it? And under what circumstances?

It’s a deep question, I know. It’s the one that touches the core of who we are and what we value. A fresh start sounds appealing, especially when life feels overwhelming. But what does that truly mean when it comes at the cost of identity?

I’ve spent 33 years on this earth trying to understand who I am. My journey has been nothing short of amazing.

I was a girl from a small village who made it to college, then crossed continents to build a life in America. I met my incredible husband—who insists he understands Ivy more than Ivy understands herself. I’ve learned to be a good daughter, sister, and wife. I’ve crossed paths with people who have inspired, challenged, and shaped me.

Pressing that reset button would mean erasing all of it—the roads I’ve traveled, the love I’ve known, the lessons I’ve painfully earned. That wouldn’t be restarting; it would be erasing me. My story, my growth, my identity would vanish.

And so, no—I wouldn’t press the button. Not under normal circumstances.

But I also understand that not all journeys are the same. If life were filled with unbearable trauma, violence, or regret—so heavy it crushed the spirit—I might consider pressing it. Not because I want a new experience, not out of curiosity for a different life, but simply to find peace. To forget the pain.

Even then, I would do it knowing that mistakes are part of being human. Resetting life might just mean repeating similar mistakes in different skin. But when life becomes too painful to carry, the idea of forgetting it all becomes less about escape, and more about survival.

So, what about you?

Would you press the reset button?
